The intestine is inhabited by a balanced combination of friendly and unfriendly flora in a positive situation known as eubiosis. This dynamic balance can be impaired (dysbiosis) as a result of stress, infection, food intolerance, poor dietary habits and pharmacological treatments, such as antibiotics, oral contraceptives and laxatives.

The bacterial strains used are filed with the Pasteur Institute collection in Paris, a non-profit foundation tasked with the study of biology, micro-organisms, disease and vaccinations.
